A reason why they they didn&#8217;t like Mr. Chaplin is because he was Christian and he didn&#8217;t make a single contribution to India.  Because India started spreading that they didn&#8217;t like Chaplin, Christians in England thought that Chaplin was agnostic.   Kannada-language filmmakers said that the taking down of Chaplin&#8217;s statue was banning artistic freedom.  Appeals to the state government have been made and an online petition set up urging people to save Chaplin from &#8220;these great dictators&#8221; &#8212; a reference to his 1940 satire on Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.</p>
<p><a href="http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/panelists/wendy_doniger/2009/03/the_battle_over_hindu_history.html">Hindus</a> have argued that the 16th century mosque called the Babri Masjid (after the Mughal emperor Babur) was built over a temple commemorating the birthplace of Rama</p>
<p>Both of these articles tell you that Hindu&#8217;s have had conflict with Christians over little stupid things</p>
