Many Hindu activists have been causing problems for many people and events in India. The first being Valentines Day, where a Hindu extremist group known as Sri Ram Sene threatened to “marry-off” couples they saw together during the much western influenced holiday. The most recent event though, was when a recent Indian film director inquired to build a statue of Charlie Chaplin. Hindu extremists were outraged, saying that Chaplin had made no influence towards India and was a Christian man. The filmmakers of the region disagree though, saying it has nothing to do with religion, and is an expression of art. I agree with these filmakers, about the Chaplin subject and The Valentines subject, and think that these extremists are being unreasonable. The statue has nothing to do with religion, its of Charlie Chaplin, for a movie. People should also be able to have a little free will, going out in public together. It even said some women were mad about the Sri Ram Sene for attacking some women in a bar for smoking and drinking, which is their choice to do in the first place. I think that this group of Hindu extremists have gotten out of hand.
I posted an article like this, and i thought it was weird that the extremists didn’t want a statue of Charlie Chaplin too. I dont think a statue built, in front of a film school, needs to have anything to do with Religion. Its sad that India obviously has no freedom of expression in their country.
this group sounds very annoying but they don’t sound like the western definition of “extremists”. for some reason i think bombings not a protest to a statue. but reading about the attack i feel like there more than just annoying but beginning to be brutal. I have to agree with Rachel when i say that individual freedoms in India are being targeted in an unfair manor.
I agree that this group is taking this overboard and they need to be aa little less extreme. A statue really has nothing to do with their religion and this has gotten out of hand. They should stop being so brutal and hopefully clear this up.
I agree i think it is ridiculous. the extremists are over reacting about this. I think film makers should be able to have a statue of Charlie Chaplin. I think that the filmmakers need to explain better to the extremists that the statue is not at all supposed to be meant towards religion.
i agree i think the extremists are over reacting big time. i dont understand what the big deal is about the film makers wanting a statue of charlie chaplin in front of the film school. i dont think the film makers are meaning for this statue to go towards thier religion. i think its sad these people dont have that much freedom.
I agree i think that these people are taking it way to far. I don’t get how they think it is a insult to them. I mean its a dang filmschool. who cares if they put Charlie Chaplin in front of the school.
extremists are making a mountain out of an ant hill. the stupid statue isnt a religion thing. its just for looks. ANd i think that they are being stupid. charlie chaplin is a cool person. they dont have to look at the statue if they dont want to.
those people are pretty crazy to say he was a “christian man” even though it did most definently did not even go with religion at all.
indeed ben indeed.
They gotten a little to controlling don’t you think? The people should at lest be able to have a little freedom and the Hindu’s should just chill a little bit.
