The Ganges River ecosystem is facing many challenges. The population around the river is growing quickly, and the pollution is bad. Their sewege is dumped directly into the river. 80% of the pollution in the river is urban waste, and 60% of that comes from near a city called Varansi. To ease the pressure on the rivers ecosystem a fund of the R’s 12.22 crore has been set up under the Jawaharla Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Due to the polluted water maney people die each year from drinking straight from the Ganges river. The rivers ecosystem and unplanned tourism can and will have a disastorous impact on the cultural carrying capacity of the cities along the river and the rivers ecosystem if this pollution is not stopped. It surprises me that they would dump so much waste into that river. Most people along the river believe that it is holy. I have no idea why you would throw your waste into a holy river, unless you were trying to baptize your garbage or something?
Haha! Baptize your garbage! That’s awesome. But seriously, it is really interesting that while so many people think of the Ganges as being holy, so much garbage is dumped there. The other thing that rather confuses me is how the people bathing and swimming in the river don’t notice the mass pollution! Especially near the city of Varansi. I suppose that some people would just ignore it because of the fact that believe it’s a holy river.
If a river is sacred to you wouldn’t you treat it that way? I don’t see why so much waste is dumped into this river when so many people live on it, bathe in it, and worship it. Something should be done about reducing the amount of waste dumped into the river each day. With such a large amount of people going to the river each day something should be done to prevent the danger the pollution is causing.
That is so gross that people dump their garbage into the river. they really need to find a different alternative. and people drink from that river too! that’s so sick! that should be no way to treat a holy river if you ask me.
i think its stupid that they dump so much waste in to the river and they know that people are dying from that. The river is suppose to be holy and i dont think it is holy if they dump waste in it.
I think that since the river is so sacred that it shouldn’t have garbage and waste dumped into it. If they keep treating the river this way than the river will be a landfill instead of a holy river.
I don’t think they should have even started dumping waste into the river but now that they have they need to stop
i think they should stop dumping waste because many people are getting diseases and are dieing and they are effecting the water in different places down the river.
ya i think they need to stop. Their polluting isnt just effecting them, where do you think all of that waste goes to. straight to the ocean and is affecting marine life. They need to fix this problem
