Translating the holy book of Buddha’s teachings to english is the goal of some organizations. To help the religion survive people must understand what the foundations of that religion are and what are the goals of that religion. One of the major problems that the buddhists are facing now is that in many languages when a holy book is translated, the one who is doing the translating changes the meaning of the words. They often alter the teachings slightly to reflect their personal beliefs. In a related article buddhism is also expeirencing problems. The Dalai Lama is currently 73 years old and he is becoming more frail by the day. The Dalai Lama is one of Buddhisms most important leaders. One teenage monk that might take the Dalai Lama’s place is, like the Dalai Lama himself, opposed to violence, but this young monk enjoys playing violent games on his play statinon. He says that he plays these games not because he likes violence, but because it helps him to let go of his frustrations. There are a lot of differences that buddhists will have to face like culture and language. Will buddhism survive the changes of the modern world?

the Dalia Lama has a play station?? That’s weird, i wonder whats going to happen to Buddhism if a teenager who plays violent video games in his spare time becomes the leader of a major religion. good article!!! very interesting.
i think they should let the young monk become the Delei lama after the old one paces on. so what if he plays violent games at least he is taking his anger out on a video game instead of other people.
I believe they will beacuse they have indured many changes the world has already gone through. Like moderization, many wars, and many other changes. I think buddhism will endure for a very long time, as long as there are people who are willing to follow its ways and teachings.
is not that its a bad thing that he plays the game. what he said in his article was that he did it to keep his mind empty of all issues and thats what he did for fun. i think that just because we play violent vidoe games doesnt mean that were bad people and want the world to go die it just helps some calm down.
I think that the holy books should stay within that religion. . . It shouldn’t have to be translated, because if they are true Buddhists, they should know the language as their first. And if the Buddhist people are serious about keeping their religion alive, they have to enforce that as they’re culture is growing by having kids.
Zack has a really good point. If what they are saying is that they aren’t sure if the young monk should become the Dali Lama because of violent video games, that’s stupid. He is smart enough to not be a violent person, and yet, at the same time, he has found a way to let out his anger without harming himself, or anyone else.
Yeah, i was surprised that he plays video games. He’s going to be the leader of an extremely laid back, peaceful religion. I thought that was kind of weird and i do think that if they keep doing things like this, letting the Dali Lama do things such as watch whatever and play whatever he wants, they will lose some of the ways of the religion.
i agree with zach that the young monk should become the dali that is just rediculious. maybe if he was not so violent people would want him to.
I agree strongly, if you are a true Buddist you should know how to read your own language. They shouldnt have to translate the book, and if they absolutly have to translate it then keep it the way it is, thats just wrong tampering with what other people belive in.
